The essence of hurt in Clear light of day

I think that the character who was most affected by hurt in this novel is Bim. Bim is forced to adjust to a lot of changes as well as to take up a lot of adult - like responsibilities at a very young age which resulted in her feeling her in the end. For example, Bim had to take care of Aunt Misra and her brother Raja at a very young age, this hindered her ability to have a normal free childhood although it didn't seem to bother he much and that she did so willingly. She still ended up getting hurt by Raja because of the mere fact that once he recovered from his sickness he left her immediately to live with Hyder Ali. Bim never really expected Raja to make such a move because in her mind they were gonna go after their dreams together and maintain the close knitted relationship they had. Bim never really had a close relationship with aunt Misra and Tara when compared to the one she and Raja had, but i do believe that she felt hurt when Tara got married and moved out of the house and when aunt Misra died. I think that it made her feel as though she was stuck in one stage of life and wasn't making any progress like her siblings. Everyone was moving on one by one and she was still in the old family house. She also felt hurt at the fact that Raja would ask her to pay rent after all that she had done for him when he was too sick to do anything for himself. Tara as well experienced some level of hurt during her childhood days, she was always the slowest in school and she didnt have much in common with Bim and Raja while growing which made her distant from the two. I think that this made her feel isolated and inferior from her siblings but she just never made it obvious that it bothered her. I believe that Aunt Misra must have felt hurt when Tara left the house and the fact that she never returned to see her when she was sick simply because Aunt Misra was the one Tara would confide in whenever she was troubled with a situation. I think that Raja as well experienced hurt in the novel because the relationship that he had with Bim was no more. Raja probbaly thought that going away to live with Hyder Ali would not have changed anything, he probably even felt that asking Bim to pay rent was a good thing but in reality it was actually a selfish and ungrateful act which just made the tension between him and Bim worse. I think that though Baba was mentally challenged he was still affected by hurt in the novel. Although he was satisfied just with his pebbles and playing his music i think he was still aware of the fact that the other children never really conversed with him much and he probably even questioned this but because he didn't really know better it wasn't something that bothered him much. It is evidently clear that each of the main characters in the novel experienced some level of hurt throughout the novel whether they expressed it openly or not it still existed.

Significance of Baba in clear light of day

Baba was the youngest of all the siblings in the Das family. I Think that his character is significant due to the fact that he was born with a disability his character managed to remain constant throughout the entire novel. For example some of the practices which he adapted to from an early age stayed with hi8m as he grew older, such as: his pebbles which he uses as a source of occupation to past the time as well as his musical instrument the gramophone. Unlike his siblings Baba refused to change or adapt to anything that he wasn’t accustomed to, he stuck with what he new. Baba can be seen as a symbol of an unchanging character in the book. Baba is also the quietest of all his siblings which signifies that he spends most of his time observing everything around him. It is evidently clear that Baba's signifance in the novel is due to his quiet and unchanging character as opposed to everyone else around him which makes him different.
