School Bag

I was very impressed by the performance, mainly because they were young teens like myself who managed to put on such an excellent play. I really liked the themes which were coming out out of this play merely because they real everyday issues that teens face today, like peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, obesity, sexual abuse, lack of parental guidance (father), the need to fit in because of problems you are faced with etc. I really enjoyed the different scanarios put together in the play, for example the opening of the play with "The Graduate". I felt some sort of inspiration from this segment of the play, the graduate in this segment sent out a valid message to other teens that not because people expect the worst of you this means you should allow them to have the benefit of the doubt. However I must say that my favourite Actress was Arlene, I admired her self esteem and the way in which she looked out for others, I also liked the fact that she did not allow the classroom drama to distract her from her studies neither did it influence her in anyway to follow the bad crowd. I think that it sends a message to other young teens that there is nothing wrong with being yourself and not choosing to follow the crowd.

Much ado about nothing

1. Society of women in Shakespeare:
Women were raised to believe that they were inferior to men. The Church believed this and quoted the Bible in order to ensure the continued adherence to this principle. The protestant leader John Knox wrote:
Women were totally dominated by the male members of their family. They were expected to instantly obey not only their father but also their brothers and any other male members of the family. The punishment for disobedience was the whipping stool - girls were beaten into submission and disobedience was seen as a crime against their religion. Women could not be heirs to their father's titles. All titles would pass from father to son or brother to brother, depending on the circumstances. The only exception was the monarchy.

2. Importance of being a man:
Men had alot of power. The men made the decisions and the women were expected to obey them. The men were expected to support the family from a whole variety of occupations. And they were expected to improve the positions of all members of the family through influence and patronage from wealthier people and families than their own.

3. How illegitimate children were looked upon:
In Shakespeare’s day, the possibility of giving birth to a deformed child haunted women, for it was widely believed that “a crooked body meant a crooked heart” It was also believed in Shakespeare’s time that illegitimate children were destined to follow a similarly evil path.

4. Which characters in the play go against these roles and why:
Beatrice goes against the role of women in society because she is very outspoken and rude and does not follow the norm of society to show obedience and respect to men as well acknowledge their dominace.

Benedick goes against the role of men in society because he allows Beatrice to speak to him in whatever manner she pleases. He does not excersise power nor dominace over her, he acts as if the two are on the same level.

Don John goes against the role of an illegitimate child in society because he is infact the villain in the novel but there is no sign of him being deformed in any way.

Brother Man

Brother man is symbolic because alot of biblical reference are being used in the novel. For example Brother Man's character is symbolic of that of jesus christ when he cam to earth in his human form to spread thge gospel, like Jesus Brother man is betrayed by his followers and is later scorned by his own people. Symbolic to Jesus Brother man also performs miracles and heals person spiritually...

Much ado about nothing

What should i do with him - dress him in my apparel and make him my waiting gentle woman? He that hath a beard, is more than a youth : and he that hath no beard is less than a man : and he that is more than a youth is not for me, and he that is less than a man, I am not for him.

This quote is being used by Beatrice. By this she means that she wants to know is she too with a man who has beard on his face, she asks if she should dress him up in her clothes and make him her maid. She further states that a man who is without beard is too young and she is not right for him and that a man who has beard is too old and is not right for her.

The dramatic signifiance is that Beatrice is most likely going to go back on her own words and this leaves the raeder in a sense of anxiety.

Much ado about nothing

The savage bull may, but if ever the sensible Benedick bear it, pluck off the bull's horns and set them in my forehead, and let me be vilely painted and in such great letters as they write there is good horse to hire, let them signify under my sigh 'Here you may see Benedick, the married man."

This quote is bing said by Benedict. By this he means that a savage bull might

Life of William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was an English Poet and Playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English Language and the world's preeminent dramatist. He is often referred to as England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon”

Shakespeare was born in the year 1564 April 23rd in Stratford – upon – Avon England which was located to the west of Cambridge, this was known as St. Georges Day which was located to the west of Cambridge where he was raised and died in 1616. Shakespeare’s siblings were Joan who was born in 1569 and died in 1646, Gilbert born 1566 and died in 1612 he was a tradesman and haberdasher, Margaret who was born in 1562 and died in 1563, Joan born in 1558 and later died from plague, Edund who was born in 1580 and died in 1607, Richard who was born in 1574 and died in 1613 and anne who was born in 1571 and died in 1579.
He was the son of John and Mary Aden Shakespeare. His mother was the daughter of a wealthy landowner whereas his father was a glove maker and politician, he was elected into civil positions within the community between 1557 and 15 70 he also prospered dealing with farm products and wool but he later had issue with debt. His father died in 1601 and his Mother later died in 1608. As a child he enjoyed learning Enlish and reading stories by Latin authors. His father died in 1601 and his Mother later died in 1608. Shakespeare attended Stratford Grammer school from ages 6-13 He is Educated in Rhetoric, Logic, History and Latin and probably attended Kings New school in Stratford.. Shakespeare got married to 26 year old Anne Hathaway in the year 1582, who was pregnant at the time with their first daughter Susanna. They later had twins Hamnet and Judith in the year 1585, However, Hamnet died in 1596. He worked for a butcher at the time During the years 1578-1582 and 1585-1592 there is no information on what V was doing at this time.Sometime between 1585-1592, he moved to London and began working in theatre. There became Member and later part – owner of the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, Which was later renamed to the Kings Men Globe Theatre built in 1599 by L.C.M with Shakespeare as primary investor. He later gained a career in poet, actor and playwright in 1602 acquiring wealth However, on a sad note the theatre burned down in 1613 during one of Shakespeare’s plays. Shakespeare wrote 38 plays, 14 comedies, 10 histories, 10 tragedies and 4 romances, there is a possibility he wrote 7 others and collaborated on several others. Two major poems by Shakespeare are Venus and Rape of Lucrece, he also wrote 154 sonnets and numerous other poems. He did not write in “old English” neither “Middle English” he wrote in “Modern English”

Shakespeare was a very talented writer/actor and so his talent reflected on him positively, for he gained wealth and fame because of his great knowledge and passion for what he did.

Brother Man

Thus far in the book i see alot of relationship issues coming out such as cheat, lies, trust and deceit. Some other major themes evident are sickness, friendship, violence, faith & love... there is also some talk about ghostly spirits in the book. As far as friendships are concerned i find that there are some very good and loyal friendships coiming out in this book, for example: Jesmina is very loyal and patient towards Cordelia and the sickness she faces, i like the fact that she comforts her in her time of need especially at a time when she doesn't really have anyone to turn to, at least no one is mentioned. Brother man as well is a very good man, he too is very helpful towards cordelia and her son. i find him to be a very caring individual. I in particular admire his love for the people and animals alike as well as his environment. Additionally i admire his kindness towards Minnette, i like the fact that he took her off of the streets and cared for her at such a young age and that he never took advantage of her innocence. Papacita's and Girlie's relationship to me is one that occurs in everyday life, Girlie seems to me to be a very good woman and i get the idea that she really does love him and probably doesn't really want to leave but threatens him about doing so because he might hopefully make a change. I think that papacita is a waste of time, but they say that love is blind, I also think that he is too comfortable and he knows that she isn't going to leave him so he just goes on flirting with other women and has his fun. I believe that some part of him really loves Girlie because he keeps coming back to her, but i guess that he gets some sort of thrill when he goes out and cheats. I don't like Bra Ambo's character very much, though much isn't said abt him, he seems to be a very sly and mischievous individual as well as envious of Brother man. All in all the book thus far seems to be quite interesting and i look foward to knowing what is in store coming towards the end.
